Who doesn’t love the Fall? The trees turn spectacular colors, the weather loses its summer heat, and the gardens that spent all summer in bloom come ready for harvest. Come join myself and other interested culinarians as we adventure through Manitowoc’s Farmers’ Market on Saturday, September 7, starting at 10 AM. After our jaunt through the market, we’ll head back to Manitowoc Public Library to make ourselves a snack from what we have gathered.
If you joined us for our Spring Edition and are returning for the autumnal “At the Market with Andrew,” you will get to see the difference within the market—not only will we see a difference in the products available, but also in the diversity that the Fall season brings. In the Spring, we made some compound butter with fresh herbs and a delicious basil-mint-strawberry dessert. We also looked at green onions, dill, and many other early harvest items. Now that the Fall is here, we will see a cornucopia of other items. If you were unable to join us in the Spring, don’t worry—you didn’t miss out on anything as every season brings a new edible adventure and new flavors.
Once again, we will walk the market as we did in the Spring, stopping to talk about the items we see, share uses we know, and learn together about what the market has to offer. While we can expect to see items such as tomatoes and zucchini, the real fun starts when we find something we didn’t expect to see or discover something we didn’t even know about until we talk to the farmers themselves. This on-the-fly cooking class mixes surprise ingredients with participant interaction. It’s like something straight out of Guy Fieri’s dreams!
I hope you are able to join me on Saturday, September 7, for “At the Market with Andrew” as we learn what the market all has to offer this Fall while learning from each other. As I have said many times before, sharing knowledge about food and recipes is a timeless tradition. So, come join us as we make some friends, learn from each other, and, of course, learn what’s at the market.
Registration for “At the Market” opens at 9 AM on Wednesday, August 21. Head to www.manitowoclibrary.org/event/market-andrew-2 to grab your spot!
