Halloween usually ranks up there among people’s favorite holidays and it’s an especially fun one for families. They love to embrace the slight chill in the air. They love to dress up. They love candy! It would be enough if those were the only three reasons to love our favorite fall event. But, hold onto your hats—or, more appropriately, masks!—because Manitowoc Public Library is here to give you even more!
On Thursday, October 17, at 6 PM, join Miss Sharon and Mr. Pete for a “Silly and [Sorta] Spooky Storytime”—involving hilarity and a Creepy Pair of Underwear (and other funny tales)! If you usually can’t attend our morning storytimes, you won’t want to miss out on this Special Evening Storytime for All Ages!
Then, join us Tuesday, October 22, from 5:30-7 PM in the Briess Parking Lot across Quay Street from the Library for our annual and much-anticipated Trunk or Treat event! More than 25 local organizations and non-profits will open their trunks—which are often imaginatively decorated—and share their time, trunks, and Tootsie Rolls (or other sweet treats!). It’s a safe alternative to traditional Trick or Treating—presented in a controlled environment with invite-only groups handing out goodies.
So, gear up your best family costumes—last year we saw some doozies!—bring the wagon and some walking shoes (and a treat bag!), and enjoy this beloved event.
But, wait—there’s more Halloween fun to be had at MPL! Get ready for the 2024 Spooktacular Costume Contest, taking place in the First Floor Teen Hangout during Trunk or Treat! This is your chance to dazzle the crowd! On Thursday, October 22, from 5:30-6:45 PM, you can have your picture taken and sign up to compete in one of three categories:
- Youth—Kids, ages 0-12-years old
- Teen/Adult—Everyone 13-yers old and up
- Group—Families or themed costumes with a group of 3 or more people
The MPL Scream Team is going to have a blast reviewing all the photos and selecting 10 finalists from each category! We’ll be looking for costumes that show off creativity, originality, authenticity, and great presentation. Keep an eye on MPL’s Facebook page, because the finalists will be posted there on Thursday, October 24. The photo with the most reactions in each category will claim a nifty prize!
Ghosts and goblins of all ages are welcome! Family-friendly costumes are encouraged and the winners of the Spooktacular Costume Contest will be revealed on Monday, October 28. Don’t miss out on this chance to showcase your Spooktacular Style!
