The mural over the main entrance features a cast of literary characters enjoying a day at Manitowoc's very own Washington Park. Artists David Carpenter and Erin LaBonte completed the painting over the course of three and a half weeks. Characters include Mowgli and Bagheera from The Jungle Book, the Seven Dwarves and the Evil Queen from Snow White, Tortoise and the Hare, Dorothy, Cowardly Lion, Tin Man, Scarecrow, The Great Gatsby's Green Lantern, Edgar Allen Poe's Raven, Little Red Riding Hood, Big Bad Wolf, Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara, Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet, King Arthur, Merlin, Three Little Pigs, Sherlock Holmes and Watson, Rip Van Winkle, Phileas Fogg, Alice, White Rabbit, and Cheshire Cat. Aside from the Washington Park bandshell, other creatures and features include the flying monkeys from the Wizard of Oz, the balloon from Around the World in Eighty Days, Yorick's skull from Hamlet, and the caged bird from I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.
