Event Details
With such rich, dare we say intoxicating source material from which to draw, Manitowoc Tavern History and Manitowoc Public Library are proud to present “Manitowoc Brewery History, 1847-2023.” This presentation will cover the four major areas of the city’s beer-brewing history, beginning with immigration and who showed up to get things started. We will then explore some of the early brewing pioneers, such as William Rahr and later, the many elements that came together to create Manitowoc’s most memorable brewery—Kingsbury! Lastly, we will look at how the old Rahr Malting site was resurrected by a 5th generation family-owned company—Briess Malting and what makes them a leader in providing malt to the craft brewing industry of the United States.
Joe Kazda (manitowoctavernhistory.org), Mike Duescher (Rahr Family Brewing & Malting Historian), Bret Blizzard (Kingsbury Beer Historian), and Ron Schroder (Director of Marketing, Briess Malting) will be sharing their extensive beer-related knowledge with attendees during this program, making “Manitowoc Brewery History, 1847-2023” a destination event for both local history lovers and brewery aficionados!
Also in the mix—Paul Hoffman of Petskull Brewing Company fame, who will be on-hand pouring samples of his quality microbrew to attendees 21-years old on up!
