Join the Lakeshore Seed Collective in the Balkansky Community Room at Manitowoc Public Library for the 3rd Annual Lakeshore Area Seed Swap on Saturday, March 11, from 9 AM to Noon. A seed swap is a no-cost seed exchange. If you have extra seeds that you aren't planting or you are looking for something to plant in your own garden, stop by MPL! Think of a seed swap as a potluck—but with seeds!
There is no cost to participate and you don't need to bring seeds in order to take some seeds. Any vegetable or flower seeds are fine. There will be a box at the Library near the Main Service Desk on the First Floor where you can drop off seeds beginning on Monday, February 27. We'd appreciate donations of seeds ahead of time so that we have a chance to organize them.
Seed Library at Manitowoc Public Library
Curated by Manitowoc Public Library and Lakeshore Seed Collective, and housed in a lovely vintage card catalogue generously donated by Manitowoc County Historical Society, the Seed Library at Manitowoc Public Library is intended to cultivate an interest in gardening for both the novice and the experienced grower. Situated on MPL’s First Floor near the Service Desk, the Seed Library is a collection of open-pollinated and heirloom seeds that you can “check out” up to 4 seed packets per household per visit to the Library to plant and grow at home at absolutely no cost to you. That’s right—there’s no catch: the seeds are available FREE of charge. Seeing as our seed collection depends primarily on donaions, you'll see different seeds available at different times, so check back frequently to see what's available. The MPL Seed Library will be available to our community beginning on Saturday, March 11, (in conjunction with the 3rd Annual Lakeshore Seed Swap). For all the details for this amazing new possibility, please head to www.manitowoclibrary.org/seedlibrary.
